Learning the electric field concept as oriented research activity
2003
This work is grounded in a constructivistic conception of the learning of science, more particularly on the model known as teaching–learning as oriented research. In accordance with this theoretical basis we have developed an empirical research project to investigate the teaching of electrostatics in high schools. The designs developed have enabled us to assess the learning achieved by the students from conceptual, procedural, and attitudinal stances. According to our findings we can say that the materials developed and the way we have worked with them have contributed to more significant learning and favored a more positive attitude toward the subject. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Global connectedness in higher education : student voices on the value of cross-cultural learning dialogue
2015
The study explores how sense of global connectedness can be enhanced by creating opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue in higher education. Thematic analysis of randomly selected 15 learning journals, students’ reflections on their learning during an international seminar was used to identify students’ significant learning experiences. The results emphasise the added value of diversity (geographical, disciplinary, cultural and social) among students, faculty and invited presenters for creating meaningful learning. Furthermore, they suggest that designing an integrated approach of contents, contexts and activities for critical engagement in global dialogue and knowledge generation in hig…
Significant in life : Core learning outcomes of a social and emotional course in physical education teacher education
2022
The purpose of the study is to explore physical education (PE) students’ social and emotional learning (SEL) and the meaningful learning experiences during the SEL course. In the teaching profession, understanding SEL is important because the guidance of learning and group dynamics is essentially an interactive social process. Further, previous research shows that focusing on socioemotional skills promotes students’ academic achievement. Teachers’ SEL skills can be developed by training. In PE teacher education annually, 60 first-year-students participate in a 20-hours SEL skills course based on Gordon’s interaction model and SEL concepts. The course consists of practising SEL skills such a…
Enseñanza de los conceptos de cantidad de sustancia y de mol basada en un modelo de aprendizaje como investigación orientada
2007
This study deals with the design and implementation of a research on the concepts of «amount of substance» and «mol». This work is grounded on a constructivistic conception of the learning of Sciences, more particularly on the model known as teaching-learning as oriented research. In accordance with this theoretical basis we have developed an empirical research framed within the teaching of Chemistry in High School. The developed designs have enabled us to assess the learning achieved by the students from a conceptual, procedural and attitudinal stance. According to our fi ndings we could say that the materials developed and the way we have worked with them have contributed to a more signif…
Museum behind the scenes–an inquiry-based learning unit with biological collections in the classroom
2016
AbstractThe aim of this study was to design and evaluate an inquiry- and activity-based learning unit for the classroom that uses biological collections to teach key evolutionary concepts and to support the understanding and appreciation of the work of a museum. The unit consisted of three parts that focused on the most important tasks of museums: collecting and conserving, researching and exhibiting. The students created their own collection, performed research surrounding it and then designed an exhibition. Seventy-six secondary sixth- and seventh-grade students participated in the testing of the prototype unit. For evaluation, we carried out a pre-/post-test design using a questionnaire …
Learning Curve and Fatigue Effect of Flicker Defined Form Perimetry
2011
To evaluate the learning curve and fatigue effect of flicker defined form (FDF) perimetry.Prospective cross-sectional study. One hundred forty-one eyes of 75 healthy subjects were included in the study. Every subject was measured 3 times on 3 different days within 3 months. Differences among the tests were analyzed for mean sensitivity (MS), mean deviation (MD), pattern standard deviation (PSD), reliability indices, test duration, and test points5% and0.5% in 75 right eyes on the basis of linear mixed models for repeated measurements. To assess the effect of fatigue, differences of MS, MD, and PSD values between 66 left and right eyes were evaluated regarding alterations between these 3 exam…
Self-regulatory Efficacy and Foreign Language Attainment
2016
The foreign language learning process is lengthy and full of obstacles, while the most significant learning effects are quite delayed in time, and difficult to notice on a day-to-day basis. For this reason perseverance in self-controlling efforts may be of crucial importance to language success. It allows for a steady linguistic and cultural development of the student, allowing him to enjoy diverse, even contradictory opinions, leading to ultimate language success. The results of the research carried out with Polish secondary grammar school students (N = 621) demonstrate that only in reference to self-assessment of FL skills students with high levels of self-regulated efficacy significantly…
Building of the adult students' expertise and identity in the teacher's work which precedes the teacher education
2015
This research describes adult students’ significant learning experiences in teacher’s work prior to teacher studies. The research material comprises of 39 essays written by the students of class teacher programme for adults in the beginning of the programme. The experiences at work has opened up the positive and tense sides of teaching and offered a realistic mirror to assess their own suitability for the profession. What was learned through practice created a bridge to studying the new theoretical material in teacher education. However, adult’s learning in a school context and at the teacher education is different. Education should utilize and examine critically the knowledge of adult stud…
